I came across Taurus while travelling in Spain and certainly wasn’t expecting to find a huge bull standing on the beach. He was completely relaxed, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous getting this close to him with my camera.
There was something extraordinary about seeing such a powerful animal in this setting. Standing almost directly in front of me, with those enormous horns and that solid, muscular body, he had an incredible presence.
I stayed with him long enough to make the portrait I wanted. I chose black and white because it concentrates everything on the bull himself, his shape, expression and strength, without anything else competing for attention. For me, the photograph still brings back that slightly unnerving feeling of standing face to face with him on the beach.
