I photographed Wild Coast II at La Pared in Fuerteventura, where the Atlantic can hit the rocky coastline with tremendous force. I was standing close to the edge when this enormous wave struck the rocks and exploded upwards in front of me.
The spray caught both me and my camera, but fortunately I had already got the shot. What really struck me was the sheer scale of the water as it rose above the rocks and briefly hid much of the coastline behind it.
I chose black and white because I wanted the shape, texture and force of the wave to stand out. This photograph still takes me straight back to that moment, with the Atlantic breaking almost on top of me and the spray coming straight towards me.
