With this photograph, I was interested in what happened when several hibiscus flowers were brought together rather than concentrating on a single bloom. The different shades of pink, red and yellow immediately gave the arrangement a completely different energy.
I spent some time moving the flowers around until the shapes and colours felt balanced. I wanted each bloom to remain distinct while still working as part of the larger composition. Keeping the background pale and simple allowed the colour, texture and detail of the flowers to stand out.
What I particularly like is how the photograph changes at a larger size. From a distance it reads as a strong arrangement of colour, but closer up you begin to notice the individual petals, textures and small differences between each flower.
