I made End Of Day in Hossegor, France, while I was there photographing a World Tour surfing event. By the end of the day most of the activity had quietened down, and I noticed this lone surfer walking along the beach with his board.
What caught my attention was the silhouette of the surfer against the fading light. After spending the day photographing the energy of the competition, this felt like a very different side of surfing, with just one surfer leaving the beach as the day came to an end.
I chose black and white because it reduced the scene to the figure, the light and the shape of the shoreline, which was exactly what had appealed to me when I saw it.
