What first caught my attention with Giants Roar was the colour running through such a powerful breaking wave. There are soft greens, pinks and peach tones in the water, which seemed almost at odds with the force of the sea.
I liked that contrast between power and delicacy. The wave was beginning to fold and break, but within all that movement there were these surprisingly subtle colours and textures.
I chose a square composition because it keeps the attention firmly on the shape and movement of the wave. At this scale the sea begins to feel almost abstract, which is something I particularly like about this photograph.
