I made Green Crescendo in the Canary Islands. What first caught my attention was the band of clear green water running alongside the breaking white surf. The colour seemed particularly vivid against the much softer grey sky.

I liked the simplicity of the scene and the way the different parts of the wave separated into bands of green, white and darker water. For me, it was the colour that made the photograph, particularly that brief moment before the wave lost its shape completely.

I am always watching for these changes in the sea. Light, weather and the movement of the water can transform the colour from one moment to the next, and this was one of those occasions when everything came together.
